GFA presidential filing fee should have been more than GHC 50,000 – Olubio Commodore
General manager for Accra Great Olympics, Oluboi Commodore beleives the filing fee for the upcoming Ghana Football Association (GFA) presidential elections should be more than the approved GH¢50,000.
At the Ordinary Congress held in Kumasi on Monday, July 10, 2023, delegates approved a proposal of GH¢50,000 as nomination fee for aspirants interested in contesting for the GFA presidential seat.
The new figure represents an increment of 900% compared to the GH¢5,000 charged during the previous elections held in 2019.
The decision has been criticized but the vertrean football administrator beleives it should have been more.
“It should be more, that is my position, the money should be more than 50,000 Ghana cedis. But I would have added that if you’re able to win or place second, your money should be returned to you. That is what I would have supported if I was against it, but I wasn’t against it,” Oluboi Commodore, who is a former Black Stars management committee member told the press after the congress.
The nomination fee for the Executive Council position was also increased from GH¢2,500 to GH¢15,000. Regional FA position from GH¢2,500 to GH¢10,000. Nominations fees for other positions within the GFA structure have also been increased.
Meanwhile, Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku has disclosed that he will go for re-election.
He is expected to be contested by former GFA vice President, George Afriyie, Kojo Yankah, a former Western Regional FA chairman and Bankroller of Berekum Chelsea, Amofa Jantuah have all declared their intentions to contest for the top football position.
The Ghana FA is expected to announce the road map for the elections in the coming days. The elections are expected to take place in October this year.
