Vice TV’s Icons Unearthed to Explore Fast & Furious Franchise in Season 3
The Nacelle Company’s Icons Unearthed docuseries has just been renewed for season 3. Days after premiering Icons Unearthed: The Simpsons, the second season of the docuseries following Icons Unearthed: Star Wars, it has been announced that the show will return with Icons Unearthed: Fast and the Furious.
As the title would suggest, season 3 will delve into the complete history of the popular franchise that started with The Fast and the Furious in 2001 with the tenth and eleventh installments currently in the works.
After directing prior installments, Brian Volk-Weiss (The Toys That Made Us, The Movies That Made Us, The Center Seat: 55 Years of Star Trek) will return to direct Icons Unearthed: Fast and the Furious.
Volk-Weiss executive produces alongside Cisco Henson, Alyssa Michek, and Ben Frost. Pete Gaffney, Falguni Lakhani-Adams, and Andrea Brakke are overseeing for Vice TV.
Exclusive interviews will be featured with a variety of names, such as Tyrese Gibson, T.I., Lucas Black, Roger Corman, Chad Lindberg, Thom Barry, Michael Brandt, Derek Haas, Gary Scott Thompson, JJ Perry, Spiro Razatos, Tanner Foust, Samuel Hubinette, Debbie Evans, and Fred Raskin.
In a statement, Vice TV’s SVP of Content Strategy and Programming, Peter Gafney, said: “The Fast & Furious franchise is one of the biggest movie series of all-time and Vice TV is proud once again to partner with Nacelle on another installment of Icons Unearthed. Our audience is definitely responding to this series, so we’re thrilled to be making more with Brian and his team.”
“We took apart this franchise’s engine, piece by piece and found out exactly what makes it run: heart and stunts… lots and lots of stunts!” Volk-Weiss also stated.
The Simpsons Are Explored in the Current Season
For now, fans of the Icons Unearthed docuseries can explore the history of The Simpsons with the second season of the show. The Simpsons is another franchise rich with history with 36 years to draw back upon. The season premiered on Vice TV on Oct. 5.
“The entire purpose of Icons Unearthed is to find the deep stories behind the creation of the most popular and iconic shows and movies. With The Simpsons, we had 36 years of groundbreaking history to dive into,” Volk-Weiss told MovieWeb about the series.
Clearly, enough people have been tuning in for Icons Unearthed: Fast and the Furious to get greenlit at Vice TV just days after the premiere of season 2. As of now, a premiere date hasn’t yet been set for the third season.
