Vin Diesel Pays Tribute to Paul Walker & Celebrates Fast X

Fast and Furious star Vin Diesel has paid tribute to his dearly departed friend and co-star Paul Walker, as well as celebrating the franchise which they launched together getting to a tenth installment.

Taking to social media, Diesel posted a video of himself wishing Paul Walker a happy birthday on what would have been his 49th, before saying, “We finally did it. We finally made Fast 10 as you and I promised so many years ago.”

Vin Diesel and Paul Walker first starred together in The Fast and the Furious, which introduced audiences to Diesel as gang leader Dominic Toretto and Walker as undercover LAPD officer Brian O’Conner.

The characters form an unlikely friendship in the film, with the two actors forming a heart-warming friendship in real-life as well. The pair went on to star together multiple times throughout the franchise, before Paul Walker’s untimely death in November 2013.

Since his passing, Walker’s character has been given a surprisingly touching farewell in 2015’s Fast 7, with Diesel often mentioning how much he misses his friend and how much the continuing Fast and Furious franchise is a tribute to him.

Not much has yet been revealed regarding the plot of Fast X, but we do know that it will be the first of the final two movies in the franchise.

Prior Fast X director Justin Lin previously revealed that the Fast and Furious franchise will be wrapped up with two more movies, Fast 10 and Fast 11.

“The idea of the last chapter being two films is correct,” Lin said in September last year. “I have to say, I’m so glad – because I think when I first entered this franchise, a sequel was not a given.

You had to earn it, you know? And so to be sitting here talking to you and go, ‘Oh yeah, there’s gonna be two more movies!’ I’m like, ‘Wow.’ It means a lot.

So, every day when I wake up, I’m trying to reconfigure and make sure hopefully whatever we’re talking about process wise is gonna yield the best result. But I think having one chapter in two movies is correct. That’s where I sit today.”

Justin Lin has since walked away from directing duties on Fast X after just a week of filming. The filmmaker’s decision reportedly came as a result of an argument with star Vin Diesel, who has, of course, put others off of returning to the Fast and Furious franchise.

Fast X will now be directed by Louis Leterrier, who is best known for The Incredible Hulk, the Transporter series, Clash of the Titans, and Now You See Me.

Starring Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Jordana Brewster, Nathalie Emmanuel, Sung Kang, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Michael Rooker, Scott Eastwood, and Charlize Theron, Jason Momoa, Rita Moreno, Alan Ritchson, Daniela Melchior, and Brie Larson, Fast X is scheduled to be released on May 19, 2023, by Universal Pictures.
